The inaugural Refugee Awareness Week (RAW) was launched in conjunction with World Refugee Day on 20 June 2016.
World Refugee Day (WRD) is commemorated annually on 20 June to recognize and applaud the contribution of forcibly displaced people throughout the world, and to remember the plight experienced by millions of people worldwide – those who have been forced to flee from their homes due to conflict and persecution.
Acknowledging that the issue of displacement is one that is not in our backyard but Right At Our Doorstep, RAW 2016 was a timely opportunity for public dialogue and engagement on refugee related-issues, bringing together practitioners, aspirants, advocates and resources together, to generate greater understanding, awareness and to spur collective action.

The inaugural Refugee Awareness Week was held from 20 – 25 June 2016, at The Red Box, proudly supported by Youth Corps Singapore, under the National Youth Council. Through the week-long event, we witnessed a growing community from the ground up, those keen to learn more about what is happening beyond our borders, in our backyards, and many others, working on the ground to make every difference they can.
