Campaign
Together for Hope
In line with Refugee Awareness Week (RAW) 2017, AFR-SG launched campaign #TogetherForHope in partnership with Lush Singapore.
Campaign Journey
Pen A Message of Hope
From 10th – 26th June 2017, members of public were encouraged to write a message of hope at any Lush Singapore shops. Over 300 messages were collected and later translated into Arabic language by volunteers and As-Souq Arabic Academy.
Hand of Friendship Soap
With a delicate scent of cherry blossoms in bloom, Lush Singapore introduced a limited edition campaign product Hand of Friendship soap (S$15 each) and pledged all proceeds (minus GST) to AFR-SG to support our efforts.
Delivery & Distribution of Supplies
In preparation for the delivery of Messages of Hope, AFR-SG launched an appeal for funds on GIVE.asia, to raise S$10,000 to provide food and hygiene supplies to at least 100 Syrian families in Mafraq, Jordan. Our ground partner in Jordan is Tell Me A Story Too (TMAST), a initiative by Singaporean students studying at Yarmouk University.
Community Outreach
AFR-SG was invited to participate in 2 community events in the month of June 2019: CHARIS Humanitarian Forum & Fair and Fair Play – Inclusive Community Fair organized by The Rice Company who sponsored our booth. We had the opportunity to speak to members of public about AFR-SG’s work and the appeal.
Sale of Merchandise
Aside from committing 100% from AFR-SG’s merchandise ‘You only leave home’ Tote bag and ‘Human First’ sticker, our community member Fasola donated her artworks and we also received an in-kind donation – copies of Coordinates by Regina Toon, a book of poetry self-published in 2016.
Asia Pacific Premiere of "Wajd: Songs of Separation"
In support of the campaign, community organiser Imran connected AFR-SG to NTU Muslim Society (NTUMS) for the Asia Pacific Premiere of Wajd: Songs of Separation (rated PG by IMDA) by Syrian-Canadian filmmaker Amar Chebib on Friday, 29 November 2019. The film was followed by a short sharing and Q&A session.
